Biography
Pei-Hsun Wang is an associate professor in the International College of Semiconductor Technology (ICST) at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taiwan. He received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan, in 2007, and the M.S. degree in Photonics and Optoelectronics from National Taiwan University (NTU), Taiwan, in 2009. After the mandatory military service as an army second lieutenant, Communication Officer, he was at the Ultra Fast Optics Lab at National Taiwan University (NTU) as a research assistant during 2010-2011. In 2011, he joined the Ultrafast Optics group at Purdue University, USA, where his research project is in microresonator-based frequency combs, and later received his Ph.D. degree from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, USA, in 2016. During 2016-2019, he joined Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) as a principal engineer in process integration, after which he joined National Central University in 2019 as an assistant professor. In 2024, he joined ICST at NYCU as an associate professor. His research interests currently include nano-photonics fabrication, silicon photonics, FMCW LiDAR, ultrafast optics, and fiber communications.
Dr. Wang has authored or coauthored 30 SCI journal papers and 50 conference papers in the novel area of silicon photonics, semiconductor fabrication, FMCW LiDAR, ultrafast optics, and microresonator-based comb applications and also co-invent more than 20 US patents in the area of semiconductor fabrication, all of which have been widely cited. On Google Scholar, his works have been cited over 3,000 times, with more than 1800 citations in the past five years. Over the past decade, his research has been featured in top-tier journals including Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, Optica, Light: Science & Applications, and Laser & Photonics Reviews. In 2016, Dr. Wang and his colleagues characterized the cavity soliton formation with pure cavity information at the drop waveguide [Wang et al., Opt. Exp. 2016]. This paper is one of the 15 most cited articles in Optics Express in 2017. Dr. Wang’s numerous awards include the outstanding teaching award, research award in 2024, and outstanding new-faculty award in 2021 from National Central University, Taiwan, the scholarship of the Phi Tau Phi Scholastic Honor Society, Mid-America Chapter, USA, in 2013, and outstanding thesis award of the Physical Society of the Republic of China, Taiwan, in 2009. He is a Member of both Optica (formerly OSA) and IEEE, and served as a Reviewer for Optics Express, Optics Letters, Journal of Lightwave Technology, IEEE Photonics Journal, Applied Physics A, and Scientific Report. He was also invited as an invited speaker in TPS-OSJ symposium, OPTIC2022 (Taiwan), a co-chair in session “Optical Waveguides and Communications” in OPTIC2022(Taiwan) and a committee member in session “Quantum Electronics and Laser Technology” in OPTIC2023 (Taiwan), as a technical program committee in MOC2024 and in WOCC 2024, as a guest editor in Special Issue “Micro/Nano Resonators, Actuators, and Their Applications” on Micromachines in 2021-2022, III-Nitride Materials in Electronic and Photonic Devices on Micromachines in 2023-2024, and as a session chair in session “New Effects in Microresonators” in 2013 IEEE Photonics Conference.
